ENLIGHTENED ARENA

Mosque architecture in Bangladesh comes in various styles, all of them quite distinct from those prevailing elsewhere in the Muslim world. Brick is the main construction material: it comes in different types, from sun-dried brick to burnt brick and facing brickwork, the ornamented cladding of façades. Those façades are part and parcel of the cultural heritage of Bangladesh. The terracotta mosques of Bengal have no equivalent anywhere else – they are quite unique. The art of sketching, a choice medium when wishing to convey a message to the common people, has been deliberately chosen by Sajid-Bin-Doza to present a fresh image of Bangladesh aimed at raising public awareness about the necessity of preserving its rich cultural heritage. ‘Enlightened arena, sketches of mosques’, Sajid-Bin-Doza’s exhibition is currently going on at La galerie of Alliance Francaise Dhaka. It will be open to all daily from 9am till 8pm until January 12.
